With people’s obsession with travel and food showing no signs of slowing, food festivals continue to soar in popularity. But since there are so many now, how do you separate the worthwhile ones from well, the ho-hum?

While indulging at these events is a given, it’s helpful to consider a couple other things: does the festival reinforce a true sense of place (along with offerings unique to its location), and did you learn anything? Because sadly, I’ve left more than a few festivals feeling just overextended and overstuffed.
